I would like to know if you have any information on this highly unusual piece, such as when it was made and what type of glazes were used to create it? Is it considered a planter or a vase? I can't find another like it anywhere. I picked it up from a lady whose husband passed and was a collector of "everything". I assume at one point it was purchased at an antique shop since there was a receipt in bottom in the amount of $40. It is marked McCoy on the bottom, but is difficult to see and may not come through in the photo.?

Answer:

Your vase is part of the Cascade line by McCoy, made in 1961. It did come in a couple of different color combinations...IMO, your purple is the hardest to find. It is often found in a redish/burgundy combination as well as a pearlized white finish. There are several other shapes in this line.
